Beyond Barnstaple Walk
We all come from somewhere. Whether that somewhere is another suburb or another street, we all have roots from elsewhere that have shaped us into who we are today.
This term, our theme was Stories of Human Migration and we looked at the stories of our own families and where we came from. Our children chatted to grandparents and looked at keepsakes in their home that have meaning for them and their families.
Grounded in our own stories, we then took to the streets to interview others and find out what their stories were, and where they came from. What makes up a community – is it the buildings and facilities or the people we share this neighbourhood with? We pass people daily, and this Walk was one opportunity to see, deeply see, each other.
“Most people leave their homes seeking something better for them and their family,” remarked one learner.

Footsteps outside our spaces; heart-steps to unravel our prejudices and privilege; our children will change the world.
